The Hive holds great promise.
It has been very much the brainchild of Councillor Jean Stapleton, who has driven this project from the very first time she joined a Steering Group to look at a potential Youth Zone in Wirral.
Trips were made by councillors and officials to youth zones in Bolton, Oldham and Wigan.
We were all massively impressed seeing the clubs heaving with activities all being undertaken by an army of young people.
The Hive will offer a similar range of activities.
There might be homework to be done, food to be eaten, but also a massive range of sports that can be undertaken.
The gym facilities are as good as anybody could get anywhere in this country.
There is also a centre for the development of musical skills.
The Hive alters, fundamentally, what skills and interests young people in this area can develop.
Food will also play a key part.
It is being produced by Neo Café and the near endless supply of beautiful quality food they seem able to acquire for nothing, or next to nothing.
Here will be a place where young people can develop at their own pace, in their own time.
It’s where I hope many new friendships will be made and old friendships cemented.
The Hive is open daily after school from 4-10pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 4-8pm on Wednesdays; from 10am-2pm and from 4-10pm on Saturdays; and from 10am-2pm and from 3-7pm on Sundays.
The Hive will also open on Christmas Day!
