has tabled a Motion in the House of Commons calling on the Government to extend
the temporary restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians looking to enter the
country from January.
The Transitional Provisions set out in a 2005 European
Treaty expire on 1st January 2014 meaning that Romanians and
Bulgarians are free to migrate to Britain and compete for jobs.
Frank said: “There are nearly one million young people
out of work in this country. I am therefore urging the Government not to lift
Transitional Provisions on the movement of Romanian and Bulgarian citizens intending to work and live here while unemployment and youth unemployment
remain so high in this country.”

Note - It was reported on BBC Radio Merseyside at 1pm on Wednesday 18th December that Frank’s Motion opposed the Government’s proposal to impose a three month waiting period
for new migrants before they are eligible to receive Jobseeker’s Allowance. The Motion does not refer to this decision and was tabled before the
announcement had been made.
